Topic 1- Labour: The first session will welcome everyone in the group, giving you the chance to meet other like-minded expectant parents; who often become your life-long friends and support network whilst navigating this chapter. After receiving your Welcome Pack with lots of useful goodies and all essential Handbook I will then cover essential information you need in the last stages of your pregnancy; what to expect and how you may feel. We will discuss birth choices in the local area (including Leicestershire, Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire) and your options to consider prior to birth such as; contact numbers, birthing partners, venue etc. I'll then share with you the all important signs of labour and provide guidance on what to do once labour starts.

Topic 2- Birth: This session will cover everything you need to know about labour and birth in the modern world. I will share information on the different stages of labour, timelines of events and practical things you and your birthing partner can do to feel prepared and confident going into your birth. We will cover various options for pain relief, discuss your birth preferences and your feelings and emotions during this time. I will teach breathing and pushing techniques you can use for birth and will share information on different types of birth; vaginal, instrumental (forceps etc), c-sections planned and emergencies, and induction of labour.

Topic 3- Feeding your baby: The third session covers infant feeding. I will share current, evidence-based information around methods of feeding your baby. The session will cover colostrum harvesting in pregnancy, breastfeeding and formula feeding. Using props to demonstrate I will discuss positioning and attachment for breastfeeding in depth, expressing, sterilising and use of bottles and teats, as well as newborn behaviours related to feeding.

Topic 4- Baby and Child First Aid: For this session the wonderful Christina from Mini-First-Aid will offer a private class at our venue to your group covering all the essential information you need to know to keep your baby safe as they grow. You will be taught vital information to build your confidence in emergency situations covering topics including; CPR, choking, burns and bleeding. I will also be on hand to help and assist during the session. If one of you is not able to make this session or you already feel confident in baby and child first aid please let me know in advance and you are welcome to offer your space to a grandparent or close family member.

Topic 5- Newborn Care: The final week covers the immediate postnatal period for you, your baby and navigating as a new family. We will discuss newborn safe sleeping, nappy changing, bathing, feeding, contraception and much more. I will share what support and schedule of visits you can expect from your community midwife and health visitor and offer advice on realistic expectations with a newborn. We will cover support networks you have around you, local personally recommended services and information around your mood postnatally (including signs of postnatal depression for mothers and fathers).

1:1 One hour session: This 1:1 session with me can be delivered via video-call or a home visit (within 25minutes of Stamford). In the comfort of your own enviroment I can offer support and guidance with writing your birth preferences (birth-plan), answer any outstanding questions that may arise after the sessions and offer a listening-ear.

I keep my sessions very interactive, free of judgment and welcoming to all. I welcome you to ask questions throughout, have discussions and hands-on learning. There will be some media slides and videos to compliment your learning but the sessions are so much more than a powerpoint presentation! And I promise no question is a silly questions, I've heard it all before! :) The sessions are to prepare you as best as possible to step into this chapter of your life.
